Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman and local MLA John van Dongen were both treated to first-ever’s this past week as author, speaker, and futurist Owen Greaves organized a #TechAbby tweetup at SwitchCube, the Fraser Valley’s first coworking space.
About 30 people showed up to tweet: business people, marketers, social media personalities, PR reps, journalists, programmers, and yes, politicians.
Local man-about-town, social media personality, and entrepreneur Rick Rake was also present.
The purpose of the tweetup?
Simply to get together, celebrate technology in Abbotsford, and develop new relationships. Banman tweeted about the event where, yes, we talked his ear off about coworking and what it can do for the local entrepreneurial community: (more…)
SwitchCube is hosting a tweet-up tomorrow, Friday the first of February, right here in our offices at 33820 S. Fraser Way in Abbotsford.
The tweet-up is being organized by Owen Greaves, tech exec, futurist, speaker, and consultant:
You are invited to a #TweetUp this Friday 4 – 7PM at @switchcube in #Abbotsford – come meet awesome people!!!
— Owen Greaves (@OwenGreaves) January 28, 2013
We’re reliably informed that MLA John van Dongen is coming, as are many other business, technology, and social media personalities. There will be food, and coffee, and good conversation.
And we’d like to invite you to be there!
Perhaps you’ve always wanted to build websites or apps. Now you’ve got a chance to do so, free of charge, at SwitchCube this Thursday night.
The classes will be taught by Colin Schmidt, chief executive of Cnawlece corporation (the name means “knowledge” in middle English). He’s a developer, and inventor, and a teacher, and he’s going to walk through a very simplified way of building websites, business systems, and pretty much anything.
Check out all the details here.
The first session is Thursday night at SwitchCube from 7PM to 9:30, and seven more sessions will be held weekly until February 28. We’re located at 33820 S. Fraser Way in Abbotsford, BC (Google Map), not far from Five Corners in old downtown Abbotsford.

OK, so we’re pumped.

If you’re someone who needs space in Abbotsford for a meetup, a jelly, a club, or some other kind of meeting, let us know. We’d love to help you out … in most cases for free. Sometimes we may just ask for the ability to take 2-3 minutes and tell people about the space they’re in, and what coworking is.
We can’t accommodate everyone or all cases, but contact us. Let us know what you want to do, and we’ll help if we can.
You can get in touch with us right here in our contact form. We’re looking forward to chatting with you!

We’ve opened the doors at SwitchCube, right in the heart of downtown Abbotsford. Right at 33820 S. Fraser Way, to be more precise.
We’re having an open house on Tuesday next week. Well, any day, really … but Tuesday in particular. The actual meet-up time is 3:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon, but you’re welcome to pop in all day if you want for a free day of coworking.
The space doesn’t have everything we want yet, but we’ve got desks, chairs, WiFi, a coffee maker, a fridge, tunes for a little bit of gentle background, and more.
Come on in and join us!
And of course, a couple shots of us in the space … click for a non-sucky resolution.
